Every few month I get bored with my desktop and set about finding something new. The Styles or the images I ended up choosing were often based on impulse and reflected my particular mood at the time. Recently though, I’ve begun searching for images that stand the test of time.
Source
This is easier said than done when most free desktop theme sites are plagued with pop-up ads or hidden adware. Earlier this year i found an entry about desktopography, but i lost the adress and forgot to post about it. At deviantArt i found a tutorial and brushes for even those wallpaper-designs and i reminded there was something - desktopography III exhibition. Since ComputerArts featured this Project in Issue 166, the whole world knows about it.

Since 2005
The site began in 2005 as a collection of nature themed backgrounds by selected designers, it has since ‘grown organically’ and is now in its third year. Powering the exhhibitions of the last three years is a very slick flash gallery component which not only makes it easy to view the themes but also to download them.
Design in Perfection
What I find most interesting about this theme collection is the experimentation with design; not only is this a collection of beautiful imagery but many of the images challenge our perception of nature. Below is a thumbnail selection of my favourite themes. So if you’re in need of some new inspiration for your desktop go and download something from desktopography and let me know which one you´ve choosen!

Toggle background grids on and off, based on an idea by Jon Hicks. Very impressiv and worth a look

If there was ever a free fonts download website to garner any excitement it would be Fonts 500. The website has an incredibly large collection of free font downloads worthy of adding to your bookmark(s) collection. Font popularity is based on download activity from larger font resources found throughout the net. Previews are presented in a clean fashion with an option to input your own sample text. Incredibly easy to use, simple to navigate, and quite possibly the one site to visit for free fonts.
Download the current Top 500 fonts (26MB ZIP). I’ll remove this link as soon as the site returns.
Posterhänger Brushed aluminummmh. A tasteful, minimal way to hang oversized posters. Thank Google.
Originally found on Openswitch, Wordpress users can easily present their posting date in a more minimalistic style with a simple change to the PHP time function.
Locate and edit the appropriate PHP string in your index.php, home.php, or single.php template.
Rather than displaying the date as September 9, 2007 you can display the date as 9Sep07.
<?php the_time('dMy') ?>
Insert the above string wherever you wish. Feel free to wrap the function within <span> tags to assign a class and style with CSS.
WordPress is PHP so the PHP handbook pertaining to formating date and time will be a worthwhile bookmark.
I’m returning from the dead and I’m making another comeback. It took me a few hours designing this layout, man I haven’t designed for ages!! The image above was made in CS3. It’s nothing, really, like I said I’m just returning and I’m just finding my way with these overwhelming new tools (CS3, Dreamweaver, and WordPress).
This won’t be another portfolio site. For now I’m downsizing to a blog, hopefully I’ll start bloggin daily. As I find myself comfortable with my new tools, I will rebuild the gfx part of the site.
All right folks, I’ll call it a day and crash now. Remember, I’m still stuck on the other side of the world!
