Innsbruck is burning when the Air&Style stops in our picturepostcard town. And the BergIsel is shaking!
This will be my 4th time ill join this party and i cant wait to enter the arena. For those who know me better, im totally addicted to skiing, but every year i put my skiers in the corner and get my snowboards under my feets. Air&Style is a hell of an event and i´m very happy that this is a highlight every winter. Hope you enjoy the pics too, to warm you up for the party (pics are credited to billabong). Bonus, i´m writing you some facts you should know about this event.Party on!

Good news for the contest, TTR upgraded this contest with 1 star. That means, this contest ist now part of the 6 most important snowboardevents of the world. And the riders get more pricemoney and more TTR points ( 1000 for the winner ).
Some Numbers
2009 its possible for 13.000 visitors to be part of this great party. 1.000 more then last year.
If I quote the newspaper right, the pipe is 12m high und 22m wide. The “highest air 08” with 8,70m gone to the American Jack Mitrani. And the worldrecord is still hold form Terje Haakonsen, with unbelievavle 9,80m. This years Air&Style needs 15.000m cables and 120 tons steel framework.
The Dudes
Legendary rider Terje Haakonson joins the Air & Style competition to defend his championship against a strong Skandinavian team of riders like Peetu Piironen (ranked 3rd in last year’s contest); Anti Autti (ranked 4th last yer); Risto Matita and Kim Rune Hansen. Werner Stock and Peter Kronig complete the lineup in this year’s competition to defend the Tyroleans’ honor.
The Contest
All riders have to qualify for the 8 slots in the final. Any of the 3 judges can give max. 100 points each jump. The height, technical deed and the landing each trick is getting judged. There will be a special judging for the “highest air”.
The Bands
Skandinavian rock, or hamburger funmusic-band. Mando Diao and Deichkind are the musical headliner of this event. Mando Diao is known from nearly anyone and Deichkind is since the partyhymn “Remmi Demmi” in all ears. The hamburger band got famous because of its stunning liveshows.
Aftershow Partys
With the partyticket you can visit 5 different partys and locations during this night. BlueChip has superstar djs coming from Switzerland and the Innsbrucker Wax Wreckers on board. Jimmy´s serves funk and hiphop from dj Bernd “kinski” Rössler. Electro-pop-rockn-roll stnds for the Weekender Club. The Hofgarten celebrates with dj phono from Deichkind, and dj Schoen on their tables. Last but not least, Sixty Twenty is featuring dj Buzz from the Waxsolutions.

For those dudes without tickets, Air&Style offers a lifestream of this event on their webpage www.air-style.com. Last year this event was streamed from Puls4 into our livingrooms, whos gonna stream this event this year, will also be announced on the webpage.
UPDATE
The winner of the Air&Style Innsbruck Tirol 09 is the 20-year old Colin Frei (SUI). Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and Olivier Gittler (FRA) complete the winners. The prestigious Nokia “Highest Air” Award went to Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) with a height of 8.80 m, just falling short of breaking Terje Haakonsen´s world record (9.80 m). 24 of the world´s best snowboarders stunned the enthusiastic crowd of 13,000 at Innsbruck´s sold-out and boiling Bergisel Stadium with a world class performance.
Snowboard icon Terje Haakonsen (34/NOR) finished 5th. And quoting Andrew Hourmont, founder and organizer of the Billabong Air&Style: „Each one of the 13,000 spectators and the 24 riders has experienced an evening that will be a lasting memory for a long time. The Billabong Air&Style in Innsbruck has once again proven its unique position in terms of world class snowboarding and atmosphere.“ The top music acts Mando Diao from Sweden and Deichkind from Germany heavily contributed to this making the whole crowd dance.
