Today i had a meeting with Tanja for a cup of coffee in Innsbruck. We had a nice smalltalk about life itself and love, affairs and of course children. None of us is actually in a relationship, but since last year we are both proud to be aunt and uncle. I told her about Senna, my cousin and what we made during the days i was at home with my family. It was really funny and interessting and this afternoon was wonderful. I would like to write now an entry about what we discussed, it´s something for parents and those who will have a 12 year old daughter.
Working with the www
Parents are very happy, surprised and lucky how their 12year old daughter handles the computerworks and webthings. For her it is self-evident to work with the www and pc like that. She uploaded and organized their last christmas pictures in a new world-record time on a virtual space, added a funny comment to every picture and sent this link to all members of her family.
Doing homework and presentations online is also very normal for her. But she still needs her parents – for pronunciation of foreign words, maybe the question if this information could be right, sometimes as audience for testing the presentation with them, for example.
Controlling the web
Parents seem to have problems and often do not really know how long their childrens been online during a day. Although one of her girlfriends is currently on holidays in london, one other is sightseeing in vienna and a third had to stay at home – but they can chat together about horseriding, readings or argue about if the guys from "TokioHotel" have to go to the german armed forces, over hours and for free.
Pete, the enemy
What parents do not know is: a Pete is always interfering. He is 14years old, looks very cute on the pictures, jobbs at a riding stable and probably had met TokioHotel live somewhere. Your daughter and Pete are currently changing their phonenumbers. In point of fact, Pete is 48 years old and a paedophiliac-criminal, whos to obtain your daughters confidence by false pretenses. He scam "summerpictures" of her in bikinis and is planing a meeting, a "secret" meeting (because his parents didn´t allow him to do so…).
Do parents know who "Pete" is?
And against this helps no filter and i´m sorry to say insufficient security against this abnormaly through providers or laws. Parents have to warn their children, clear things up, always observing and be pawky.
